James C. Sharp
Director of Instrumental Music
Mr. Sharp has been playing music for over 25 years. His love for music has been the driving force behind his success. Mr. Sharp has four degrees: an Associate’s degree in Science in Architecture, an Associate’s degree in Art in Music from Crafton Hills College, A Bachelor’s degree in Music from UC Berkeley and a Master’s degree in Music composition from the University of Redlands. His biggest accomplishments At Crafton Hills College are receiving the President’s award and Einstein award. Among academic degrees, Mr. Sharp was the President of Alpha Gamma Sigma and was the student’s voice in student government as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student representative to the Academic Government of teachers.
Throughout his academic career, he has been fortunate to develop many “firsts” at each school. At Crafton he was the first student to have composed and performed an arrangement of America the Beautiful for honors convocation. At Berkeley he was the only undergraduate to ever have the University Wind Ensemble premier original compositions. He founded and presided over the Organization of Undergraduate Composers at Berkeley which fosters young composers at Berkeley. By providing a community of peer composers to critique and support each other’s works and hold an annual concert each semester. The club has been extremely successful and many of the members have gone onto masters programs.
